Trained in both applied and fine arts, Loveday’s current practice focuses on sculptural forms in metal; shaped, welded, forged, or cast using sheet mild steel or pewter. Since 2018, Loveday has worked in costume and prop-making for theatre, cabaret and festivals across a wide range of disciplines that include; textiles, paper sculpture, leatherwork, resin, plaster, blacksmithing and woodworking. Loveday is drawn to working with materials that require physical strength and endurance, yet is inspired by the more ephemeral world of music. Influenced by lyrics, tempo and sound, Loveday draws these elements directly into the physical making. Often relating to her primary interest in the ancient world and how we, as humans, navigate the contemporary world, music can be a conduit between the past and the present.
